Engineering talent 04.13.2007
There’s a difference between throwing new hires at a late project (which almost never works, and almost always in fact makes things worse), and allocating the OS team the resources it needs. OS X is being asked to do far more – powering both iPhone and Apple TV while continuing its role as a desktop and server OS for the Mac – but with almost no additional engineering talent.
But why hasn’t there been almost no additional engineering talent?
The only logical reason I can think of to account for the slow growth in the group is that it was a relatively late decision in the iPhone’s development cycle to use OS X as its underpinnings.
Otherwise, there should have been plenty of time to acquire more resources in Engineering and get them up to speed.
