Magnetic iMacs 02.26.2007
There’s a feature on the iMacs where you’re able to stick the Apple remote that comes with it onto the right side of the machine. It stays there via a magnet that’s embedded in the frame of the iMac.
Normally, this is very cool; the sort of subtle effect — like the pulsating sleep light that’s normally hidden — that makes Apple a pleasant experience.
Unfortunately, I have a CRT monitor on the right side of the iMac.
What this means is that the bottom left corner of the CRT is awash in a purple ripple: interference from the embedded iMac magnet.
Just to show that however hidden and unobtrusive you make something, there’s always a chance that some piece of old technology will interfere or exhibit undesirable effects.
